On April 22, 2007, the Children’s Fitness Challenge was held in Atlanta, Georgia. Children from the Atlanta/Marietta area came out to challenge themselves on the Obstacle Course. The highlight of the day was watching Brennan Johnston run the course. The following letter will explain it all: Good evening Al and Bernadette!
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for a wonderful event yesterday in Atlanta! I thought I'd take a quick moment to fill you in on my son's (Brennan Johnston) situation...
Back in mid-January of this year, he was playing with a soccer ball, tripped/fell, and broke his femur. Long story short, the doctor/hospital casted him wrong/too tight. He ended up with 'compartment syndrome', which led to a 15-day hospital ICU stay, along with 5 surgeries in 10 days. Ultimately, Brennan had to have his lower leg amputated on January 24, 2007 as a result.
 Needless to say, it was THE most difficult thing I've experienced as a person/parent, essentially having no control over the situation, and watching/hearing my son endure someone else's mistake -- primarily due to medical arrogance/negligence!
However; those of us involved throughout the ordeal have come to a place of acceptance, knowing God has ultimately prepared a bigger reason/lesson/blessing through this experience.
The WTF event was everything Julie described. I now share her enthusiasm for wanting to compete, and we look forward to making it a family event. However, the BEST part of it all for me was watching Brennan get back to being a kid again just 12 weeks after his accident! To watch him run, jump, laugh, and have fun was an absolute blessing!
Again, THANK YOU for your efforts in providing what I believe to be one of the best fitness experiences available for everyone involved.
